Overview of Serum

Serum is a protocol and decentralized exchange (DEX) that allows cross-chain trading, bringing unprecedented speed and low transaction costs to decentralized finance (DeFi) with full trust and transparency.

Serum project is a combination between FTX, a centralized derivatives trading platform, and Solana, a low-cost interoperable blockchain featuring smart contracts.

Serum provides a fully on-chain order book, facilitating applications of trading interfaces to access Serum's composable ecosystem.

Serum's on-chain central limit order book and matching engine provide liquidity and price-time priority for traders and projects.

History of Serum

Serum project was founded in August 2020 as the brainchild of Sam Bankman-Fried, also the founder of Alameda Research (2017) and FTX (2019).

Alameda Research, along with the FTX exchange, created and built the project on Solana.

In January 2021, Grants Program was initiated to incentivize and incubate promising projects that compose directly with Serum and support the ecosystem.

A series of upgrades to the Serum DEX was released, including Serum V3 and Serum V4.

In June 2021, Anchor, a framework for Solana's SeaLevel runtime, was released.

On September 11, 2021, the SRM token hit an all-time high of $13.72.

About Serum (SRM) token

Built on the Solana blockchain, Serum (Symbol: SRM) is the native governance and utility token of the entire Serum ecosystem, serving as the backbone of the network along with the MegaSerum (MSRM) token.

The SRM token is used with the following functions:

Governance: SRM owners can participate in and vote on the project's proposals and development decisions.
Staking Reward: Nodes partake in supporting the cross-chain transactions.
