Lens Protocol was created by the team behind Aave, a prominent DeFi platform led by its founder Stani Kulechov and CEO, Alexander Svanevik. The team includes CTO Jan Isakovic, who has experience working with 0x's smart contracts, and Product Manager Filip Martinka.

Lens is an open-source social graph that enables developers to create Web3-compatible social media platforms and profiles.
It is built on the eco-friendly Polygon blockchain and aims to empower creators to own their content and data across various Web3 platforms.

Web3 pertains to the upcoming internet era where users have complete data control. A Web3 environment eliminates the need for intermediaries such as social media platforms, as users can communicate and engage with each other directly.

Web2 social media networks rely on a centralized database that does not allow data to be easily transferred from one platform to another. Lens Protocol was developed to address this problem.

Lens Protocol is an open-source social graph enabling creators to own their community and link content through NFTs.
The platform uses NFTs to represent user profiles, which interact with each other to create a social graph.
The data and user relationships are stored on the Polygon blockchain, allowing data to be ported between platforms without the need for a central authority.
Lens Protocol's NFT smart contract includes a whitelisted logic that enables profile owners to publish content pointing back to their profiles or following others.
All profile aspects can be managed on-chain, giving users complete control over their data.
The platform is also compatible with Web3 wallets like MetaMask, Gnosis Safe, and Argent, allowing users to log in to their social media accounts without creating a new account on every platform they interact with.
