Bedrock doesn't restrict users to Amazon's in-house FMs. Instead, the platform integrates some of the industry's most popular models, including Jurassic-2, a multi-lingual language learning model (LLM); Claude, a conversational agent from Anthropic built on the company's "Constitutional AI" foundation; and Stable Diffusion, a widely used text-to-image generator from Stability AI.

Though Amazon may be a latecomer to the generative AI arena, Bedrock and Titan could pose a significant threat to incumbent sector leaders due to AWS's widespread presence and user-friendly features. Training generative AI models can be prohibitively expensive. Moreover, once a model is trained on a specific data set, it becomes "contaminated" with that data and may "hallucinate" information from it in response to unrelated queries.

Bedrock addresses these issues by offering users the option to use preexisting FMs as a backbone for their data. For customers already on AWS and those importing their data into the AWS ecosystem, this means their data remains secure within Amazon's cloud and is never injected into training data sets.

Amazon's announcement emphasizes that customers' data is not used to train the underlying models. All data is encrypted and does not leave a customer's Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), ensuring data remains private and confidential.
